Your TrailScout

How a strong and curious Dog Changed Everything

TrailScout started with Turkey, my 90-pound powerhouse who pulled like a freight train and had an appetite for everything he shouldn't eat.

Night walks with Turkey were a constant battle. He'd sniff out mystery objects in the dark and try to eat them before I could react. When a bike passed or a small animal crossed our path, he'd lunge with enough force to nearly pull me over. And the whole time, I was trying to juggle a flashlight in one hand while maintaining control with the other.

I couldn't see what he was getting into until it was too late. I couldn't have both hands on the leash when I really needed them. And after nearly dropping my flashlight into a puddle one too many times while Turkey yanked me sideways, I knew something had to change.

The Solution That Works for Any Dog

That's when I started taping LED lights to my leash handle. It was crude, but it worked. Suddenly I could see what Turkey was targeting before he got to it. I had both hands available when he decided to pull. The light moved with the leash, not against it.

As an engineer working in advanced manufacturing, I knew I could build something better. Something strong enough for a 90-pound dog pulling with everything he had. Something with real illumination power—300+ lumens, not a decorative glow. Something ergonomic enough to stay comfortable even when gripping hard.

That became TrailScout.

Built for All Dogs

Today, I walk with Barkley—a 40-pound sweetheart who's much more chill than Turkey ever was. He's a sniffer and a licker, curious but gentle. And TrailScout works just as well for him as it did for Turkey.

Because the truth is, whether you have a 90-pound puller or a 40-pound explorer, the problem is the same: you can't see what your dog is getting into in the dark, and you need both hands on that leash.

TrailScout gives you both. Real illumination. Full control. Built to handle strong dogs, comfortable enough for long walks, effective for any size.

The Mission

We're here to build gear that makes dog ownership safer and more enjoyable. Gear that's engineered to actually work, not just look cute.

Turkey taught me what I needed. Barkley proved it works for everyone.

Light the way. Love the Journey.

Any time. Any trail.
